AHA IT Team and the National Database

After a long conversation with the AHA IT staff we have determined that they are taking overflow from call center information and rescue requests on the phones, entering the data into their own database, and sending what they can to the HSUS. PETS911 would like to urge rescue workers to use the National Database run by Petfinder so that we can consolidate all the information in one place for rescue workers in the field.

People are calling in rescue requests, leaving information about what animals that they had to leave behind, what their situations are, and where they can be found. Aid workers can also input information about pets that have been found, where they were found, what condition they are in, and where they are being housed. Volunteers are also welcome to submit information if they would like to donate time or resources to these efforts.

Shelters across the Southern US anticipated the problems from pets flooding in and most of them moved animals to other facilities to provide intakes, but they are also going to be quickly overwhelmed, so volunteers who are willing to foster are especially important.

Fostering is especially important during this time of need. With so many people and families displaced there are also many domestic pets also displaced; the US Government is working on finding homes for the displaced people, volunteers who can give homes to displaced animals until they can be reunited with their families or adopted out are extremely desired.
